Memoryhood - Artist in Residence

This artwork now hanging in the Hobart Davis Centre's quiet study space, is part of a series of works and is a culmination of ideas collected by our Artist in Residence Cathy McAuliffe, who has been interviewing students and staff about their memories of the houses they have grown up in.

These concepts have been developed during facilitated workshops, personal interviews and casual conversations between the artist and the students and staff of GYC. Spanning over both Barrack St and Glenorchy campuses, people have volunteered to share their personal memories and stories with the Cathy in what she describes as “a deeply moving and valuable experience for all involved.”

Cathy has then combined these contributions with her own childhood memories and key artistic themes and metaphors to create one imagined neighbourhood. The result shows selected childhood houses and courageous memory sharing, reinterpreted and rearranged into a giant street-scape. It’s a place where the viewer can daydream about
their own memories in a safe and private way.
