College Principal

Jo Legosz

Jo’s career in education has been peppered with numerous teaching and leadership experiences but one thing remains constant; her desire to lead a faith-filled community, to sustain a positive culture which maximises student outcomes and valuing the significance and importance of stewardship.

Jo feels fortunate to have been able to continue teaching Music for many years. She has been heavily invested in musical theatre, choral singing, liturgical music and conducting over the decades and believes that the language of music knows no barriers and is a great counterpoint to the work she does as Principal.

Hobart Campus

Deputy Principal

Mathew Derrick

Mathew is a passionate educator, working in Catholic Education for over 23 years. During this time, he has been a teacher and a leader at St Virgil’s College, Mount Carmel College and both the Glenorchy and Hobart campuses of Guilford Young College.

Mathew holds qualifications in Science, Teaching, Educational Leadership and Theology. When Mathew isn’t teaching in the laboratories or leading the Hobart Campus, you can find him on the road, training for his next running marathon.

Glenorchy Campus

Deputy Principal

Blair Brownless

Blair started at GYC in 2015 in the leadership role of Director of Organisation while teaching Religion and Sport courses at the Hobart campus.

He progressed to Deputy Principal at the Glenorchy campus at the start of 2023 and still teaches the Community Sport & Recreation course.

Blair coaches many GYC sporting teams including the First XVIII football STATIS premiership teams in 2020 and 2021. He loves creating opportunities for the Student Leaders at the College.

Business Manager

MatThew Rhodes

Graduating from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Commerce, Matt held the position of Financial Accountant at RACT for seven years. He started his career in School Business Management in 2015 within the Department of Education, before joining Guilford Young College in 2022.

Matt currently oversees the commercial operations of the College, managing the ICT, Finance, Marketing and Enrolment, Work Health Safety and Compliance and Property teams. He also sits on the Board and is a member of the College Executive team.
