What is VET?

Students can explore VET options, just as they do other subjects, while at college. As a student of VET completing a full qualification, you will participate in work placement – working alongside the experts and see how the business/industry works.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is quality training, preparing students for the world of work – now and into the future.  Work is changing and Vocational Education and Training is keeping up with the demands of industry, redesigning the required skills and ensuring students have access and training in current technology, processes and meeting customer requirements. VET can provide students with transferable skills for all aspects of their life.

accessing VET

Students in Catholic colleges can access VET qualifications through School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships allowing them to continue at college while working part time and gaining a VET qualification. VET provides students with the opportunity to acquire workplace skills and knowledge through nationally recognised qualifications from industry-developed training packages.

APPRENTICESHIPS & Traineeships

Students can also study VET through school-based or part-time apprenticeships and traineeships. These enable Years 10, 11 and 12 students to combine work and training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, while still attending college and working towards their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE).  They can also provide a pathway into a career in a trade or other vocation, giving students a head start in their chosen occupation.
