Student-Led Research Sessions
The Davis Centre facilitates student-led research sessions at the University of Tasmania throughout the year.
In these sessions, class groups are welcomed on to the Sandy Bay campus, shown around the Morris Miller library, and given an in-depth lesson on how utilize library resources by UTAS librarian, Ruairi Murphy. Students are then assisted in finding print research materials for their individual studies, students with School Student Membership at the UTAS library can borrow texts themselves or, alternatively, the resources can be borrowed by ARC and teaching staff to be used later at school.
We urge any teachers whose classes have a significant research component to take up the opportunity for one of these guided sessions, they not only assist students with their research skills but also give them a chance to start becoming comfortable within a university environment, have lunch at the cafe, or even visit the John Elliot Classics Museum which is also on campus. From 2023 onwards, please also note that these sessions will now include the opportunity for a short talk/Q&A from a specialist academic in your field.
